Nike is a unique company, and in late 2002 they sought a unique space in New York to serve as headquarters and showroom space. We were honored to have been selected to work with Nike, and are delighted that our efforts produced a deal with which they are pleased.
Their space needs were very specific in terms of size, height, location and other characteristics. After an exhaustive search we developed a short list of properties that would work; first on the list was 111 Eighth Avenue, a massive structure originally built by the Port Authority in the 1920’s. Just as we negotiated terms with the landlord, factors such as the war in Iraq and a tentative consumer economy put everything on hold. When we resumed negotiations one year later, we had to scamper to develop other space in the building and to re-create lease terms and conditions that would satisfy Nike.
We are also proud of the fact that one of our principals handled Nike’s prior New York City lease, before joining us – enabling us to state truthfully that we have worked with this iconic American company for almost a decade.
